NaPoWriMo Day 21

NaPoWriMo’s prompt today suits me.  The challenge is to write in the style of the  New York School of poetry.   These poems are conversational  with observations on culture and the world seen in passing.   Frank O’Hara is a great example, and I’m gaga for his poems.

Crossing to my office

I saw a young woman—

Shorts up to there!

As I continued to my office

I thought, My God!

It’s only April

and already I’m seeing

Shorts up to there!

I had to ask myself

didn’t I once wear my

Shorts up to there!?

and didn’t someone

also think—

what’s wrong with that girl?

Shorts up to there!

And don’t I wish I could still wear my

Shorts up to there!
