Day 2 Rewrite: Postcard Poetry Fest 2013

Participating in the August Postcard Poetry Fest taught me this:  get the feeling or concept down first- then craft the wording.   Here is the second poem, as sent originally, followed by the edited version.

More often

beauty lies not in blending,

but in contrast.

The point of divergence-

the point at which

a sacred separateness

joins us in a sum of parts.

It’s the white sand beach

Stretched like a cat

against an indigo blanket of sea

The surf whispering

Here, kitty, here-

Even the dreaming cat knows,

it is both one with the world,

and a thing apart.
