August Postcard Poetry Fest 2013

From those sultry days of the August Postcard Poetry Festival 2013 !

I began with this curious image.  Here is the original poem:

I didn’t love it, but the challenge was to elbow your inner editor to the side.  Here is the revised poem:

Everything Floats

 

We entrusted our hearts

like paper lanterns

to the current.

 

I stand at the river’s edge, again,

where the world

was once illuminated

by our words.

 

The only constant

is the moon’s image

on the water,

and above me,

the stars.
