The poetry prompts from NaPoWriMo.net are just plain fun. I’m taking their advice again today and basing my poem on Frank O’Hara’s Lines for the Fortune Cookies. It’s a funny list of fortunes you are unlikely to find in your cookie… though what a wonderful surprise if you did!
I find myself discovering new poets and other artists as part of this poetry exercise. I have to ask myself: Frank O’Hara, where have you been all my life?

Good luck with your next haircut, you’re going to need it.
The next man you meet wearing white pants will change your life.
There is such a thing as showing too much interest in something.
The next call you take will remind you why voice mail is always an option.

A delicious soup will be served to you in a chintz bowl.
When you least expect it, you will find your lost ambition.
You will be contacted by someone who is very important.
You will soon be tapped on the shoulder by your future.
There are always two ways to look at a situation. Make that three.
Your glory days may be over, but you’ll always have a glorious past.
Sometimes a lottery ticket is just a lottery ticket.
Just because you voted for a loser, doesn’t mean you’ve lost.
