NaPoWriMo: Day 20

I followed the cue of fellow poet and blogger, Mary Beth, and used today’s prompt from  Today’s challenge was to select at least 5 words from an eclectic list and include them in your poem.  My poem is titled Beach Baby, Beach Baby… the lovely painting is by the Spanish artist Joaquin Sorolla (1908).

His head was heavy against my chest,
smelling of seaweed and salt
and of mercurial things, that float
below the tide.  Somewhere in there,
I smelled clove, an elusive note.
He was like a little beach cookie,
born on the curl of a wave.
Lest I sound rodomontade,
we’ll leave it that.  My baby
of the sun and of the sand,
smells simply marvelous, simply grand.
